According to the Santa Maria Times, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors postponed its decision about whether to sell 584 acres of county-owned land to the State Department of Parks and Recreation. Public hearings have been continued to make sure the public’s voice is fully heard before the Supervisors make their decision. Part of the land is currently used as the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, and frequented by off road enthusiasts. Among the issues being decided are whether possible conditions can be placed on the sale to direct the future use of the property. However, if the county does not sell the land it will be charged with managing it from here on out.

Now onto the real estate market update for Santa Maria and Orcutt. There was a 5% increase in available homes on the market since my last market snapshot on April 4, 2007. There are currently 781 homes up for sale, compared to the previous figure of 742. Currently, there are 121 pending or contingent properties in the area. In the past 30 days, there were 216 new listings, 70 expired listings, and 87 homes sold. Median sales price of homes sold during that period was $370,000. That price would get you a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 1400 sq ft home, with cathedral ceilings, and a beautiful stone fireplace.
